Below, you'll find everything you need to know about our embroidery process, pricing, and order minimums.

Is Your Logo a Good Fit for Embroidery?

Embroidery works well on most logos, but a few design details can make it trickier to stitch cleanly. Fine letters, small details, color gradients, and designs with more than 15 colors are the main things that can cause issues.

If your logo runs into one of these, that doesn't rule embroidery out. The team will typically work with you to adjust the design so it embroiders well, including a test sew out if needed to check how it looks stitched. If a design can't be adjusted without losing what makes your brand recognizable, a woven patch is sometimes suggested instead, since it uses finer stitching and can hold small detail that direct embroidery can't.

How Custom Embroidery Works

Turning your logo into professional embroidery involves more than simply loading a design into amachine. Each order goes through a carefully managed process to ensure clean stitching, accurateplacement, and consistent results.
1
Digitizing
Your artwork is converted into an embroidery file that maps out stitch types, direction, density, threadchanges, and sewing sequence. Designs may also be optimized differently for caps and apparel to accountfor how each product is constructed and stitched.
2
Programming
The embroidery file is loaded into the equipment, and the correct thread colors are selected and assignedto the appropriate needles.
3
Machine Setup
The embroidery equipment is configured for the product being decorated, whether that's headwear or flatapparel. The design placement is then traced to verify positioning and ensure it will sew within the properarea.
4
Test Sew-Out
Before production begins, we run a test sew-out to evaluate the design, thread colors, registration, andoverall stitch quality. Any necessary adjustments can be made before moving into full production.
5
Hooping
Each garment or cap is carefully hooped or framed to keep it properly positioned and stable duringembroidery. Backing or stabilizer is added when needed to support the fabric and improve stitch quality.
6
Embroidery
Once everything is approved and prepared, production begins. Our embroidery equipment precisely followsthe programmed stitch sequence to recreate your logo on each piece.
7
Finishing & Quality Inspection
After embroidery, excess backing is removed, loose threads are trimmed, and each piece is inspected forstitch quality, placement, and overall appearance.
Why the proof matters: Before your order reaches production, you'll have an opportunity to review andapprove the design details. Combined with our test sew-out and quality checks, this helps us catch potentialissues before your full order is embroidered.

What Custom Embroidery Costs

Embroidery pricing is based mainly on stitch count and how many colors are in your design. A design with a high stitch count or a lot of colors takes more time to set up and run, so it costs more than a simpler one. Setup costs aren't itemized separately. They're built into the price.

A few specifics worth knowing before you order:
New designs carry a one-time digitizing fee of $39.95. Once digitized, the file is saved for future orders, so the fee doesn't apply again for the same design
The digitizing fee is complimentary on orders of 72 pieces or more
Pricing includes up to 5 colors. Designs with more than 5, up to a maximum of 15, carry a fee per additional color
Metallic thread and 3D puff embroidery are both available, at a slightly higher cost than standard embroidery
Exact pricing depends on your design and quantity, so reach out through the AZ CAP Co contact page with your logo and rough order size to get a clear quote.

Order Minimum and What We Can Work With

Custom embroidery orders start at a 16-piece minimum of like items. Getting a custom embroidery run right the first time means starting with an order size that makes sense for a team, not a single item. AZ CAP Co does not embroider customer-supplied items on new orders, though this may be considered on a limited, case-by-case basis.

A few ways businesses typically size their first order:
A department or team rollout, ordering enough for everyone at once
A uniform program covering one location to start, with reorders planned later
A bulk run built to cover a full season without reordering mid-stream
If you're not sure how many pieces you need, the team can help you land on a number based on your team size and how often you expect to reorder.

Where Embroidery Works Best

Embroidery isn't limited to a logo on the left chest, though that's still the most common placement, typically sized around 3.5 to 4.25 inches. Larger designs are possible too. AZ CAP Co has stitched designs up to 12 inches when a project calls for it.

Away from chest placement, embroidery works on necklines, the nape of the neck, shoulders, wrists, shirt backs, caps, beanies, bags, and blankets. Pockets and very thick materials are the main exceptions, since they can be hard to embroider cleanly.

Keeping Your Brand Consistent Order After Order

AZ CAP Co keeps more than 160 thread colors in stock, which covers most logos without extra work. If none of those match your exact shade, the team can bring in the correct color, sometimes at no charge and sometimes for a small fee depending on order size. Most embroidery runs through rayon thread, with some colors also available in polyester.

Once your design is approved, the size and color specs get saved, so a reorder months or years later comes out matching your original run instead of drifting over time.

Ready to Get Your Logo Stitched?

If you already have a logo ready to go, reach out through the AZ CAP Co contact page with your design and rough quantity to get a quote started. If your logo has fine details or a lot of colors, the team can walk you through whether it needs any adjustment before it goes to production.

Custom embroidery pairs well with other parts of a branding program too. If your order also needs corporate branding solutions like gift kits or company stores, or fully custom apparel with more control over fabric and fit, those can be built into the same conversation. AZ CAP Co has run embroidery and branded apparel programs out of Prescott Valley since 1999, working with businesses across the country in addition to the local area.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for custom embroidery?
Custom embroidery orders start at 16 like items. This minimum reflects the setup work involved in digitizing, programming, and running a design, which makes embroidery a better fit for team or bulk orders than single pieces. If you need fewer than 16 items, the team can talk through other decoration options that may fit a smaller run better.
How long does custom embroidery take?
Turnaround typically runs 1 to 3 weeks, depending on the current production schedule, order size, and how long it takes to receive all the items needed. Getting your proof reviewed quickly helps keep things moving, since production doesn't start until you've signed off.
Does my logo need to be a certain type of file?
No specific file type is required to start. The team digitizes your logo into a stitch file regardless of format. If your design has fine letters, small details, color gradients, or more than 15 colors, that gets flagged early so it can be adjusted, sewn out as a test, or handled as a woven patch if that's the better fit.
What does custom embroidery cost?
Pricing is based on stitch count and number of colors, since complex designs take longer to set up and run. New designs carry a one-time $39.95 digitizing fee, complimentary on orders of 72 pieces or more and waived after that for the same saved design. Pricing includes up to 5 colors, with a fee for each additional color. Reach out through the AZ CAP Co contact page for a quote.
Where can a logo be embroidered on apparel or caps?
Common spots include the left or right chest, necklines, shoulders, wrists, shirt backs, and caps, along with bags and blankets. Left chest is the most typical placement, usually 3.5 to 4.25 inches, though larger designs are possible. Pockets and very thick materials generally aren't a good fit.
